ORGANIZATION

Eastern Washington Committee for Progress, EWC4P, is a super PAC registered with the Federal Elections Commission, FEC, as a 527 “Independent Expenditure” committee. Contributions to EWC4P are not tax deductible. We do not coordinate with any political party, candidate, or candidate's committee. We may accept unlimited contributions from any legal source; are required to collect and report to the FEC  the name, address, and in some cases the employer of all contributors; and, unlike many PACs, are dedicated to full transparency about the sources of our funding.

A 527 group is a legal entity organized under Section 527 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code (26 U.S.C. § 527).  Our purpose is to promote progressive values and issues and the election of like-minded candidates to federal public office. We thus raise money for issue advocacy and voter mobilization and engage in political spending independently of campaigns. Popularly known as "Super PACs," 527s are regulated under federal campaign finance laws because they do "expressly advocate" for the election or defeat of a candidate or party but do not coordinate with any particular candidate’s campaign.

Through our 527, even donors who have given maximum contributions to a candidate, campaign, or political party may still influence political outcomes and play a role in educating the public beyond single campaign cycles.  Your contribution will counter the influence of outside money from groups who do not share our values but have recently dominated political debate in our region.  It will fund dissemination of information through billboards and yard signs and in print and electronic news media, including radio and TV and internet advertising. It will support groups that register voters, engage in outreach to underserved communities, and educate the electorate through forums and town halls. And it can be used to hire spaces for meetings and invest in professional polling and canvassing.

In sum, your donations will influence the people of Eastern Washington to support federal candidates who believe that government has a role in protecting civil rights and civil liberties, achieving economic justice, providing for the general welfare, and sustaining the health of the environment.

As Treasurer of EWC4P, I pledge to honor the legal and ethical constraints on expending 527 funds, and I invite confidential consultations on strategies and projects to advance our goals.  Please join our effort.  Eric Fejeran, Treasurer
